Augure by Baloji
During the 1-54 Contemporary African Art 2024 edition, the Defise Foundation collaborated with the Almas Art Foundation to present ‘Augure: Infinite trolling’ by Congolese-Belgian artist Baloji as one of the fair’s special projects.
About Baloji's project
Augure: Infinite trolling’ was a video installation that explored the concept of infinite scrolling, a mechanism that drives social media consumption, and how the chaotic flow of content leads to desensitisation. Oscillating between narratives, the video installation moved through a series of disjointed yet intertwined vignettes. Baloji approached the project as an exercise in empathy, presenting each sequence as an equally important perspective. The public was invited to interact with touch screens, navigating between sequences to discover each narrative layer
This was the second collaboration between the two organisations after the ‘’AUGURE (OMEN)’’ screening. This film won the New Vision Award at the last edition of the Cannes Film Festival and was nominated for the Oscars 2024 to represent Belgium.
