Funding
The Defise Foundation seeks to uplift talented Congolese art and artists and provide them with opportunities that take their practice and careers to new levels. We also build alliances with others who wish to help fund such initiatives. In doing so, our overarching aim is to showcase the rich diversity of talent from the Congo and reframe broader narratives and perceptions about the country and its people.
In general, our efforts centre on:
. Direct support of artists in Congo and from its diaspora for the production of artwork
. Opportunities for Congolese artists to gain experience and build networks outside Congo, and particularly in the UK (through supporting artist residencies, educational opportunities, etc)
. Initiatives that showcase Congolese art and artists on the global stage, and particularly in the UK (through exhibitions, talks, screenings, etc).
Please note that at present we are not in a position to consider funding for the following:
. Artists who are not from Congo or the diaspora, unless they have a significant demonstrable connection to Congo
. Direct support to individuals for payment of fees for training and/or residencies that are not established Defise Foundation partnership initiatives
. Projects that are not directly engaged in the activities listed above
Other than specific open-call opportunities, which will be listed on our website, we proactively seek out our partnerships and projects and do not generally accept unsolicited proposals.
