Elembo Ya Sika Art Prize
The Elembo Ya Sika Art Prize has been created to support early-career artists living and working in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Named from the Lingala phrase meaning “to make a new mark,” it aims to highlight and encourage emerging talent. The Prize was established in 2025 and is supported by the Defise Foundation and the Africell Impact Foundation, with additional support from Winsor & Newton.
In 2026, three artists living and working in Kinshasa will be selected who will each receive:
● £2,000 to spend on Winsor & Newton art materials of their choice, generously offered at a discounted price
● One year of mentorship from Eddy Kamuanga Ilunga
● Support from Africell and the Defise Foundation to increase visibility of their artistic practice

What is required of the prize winners?
It will be mandatory for winners to:
● Attend the Elembo Ya Sika Awards Ceremony in Kinshasa, scheduled for February 2026.
● Use the prize, over the course of the prize period, to advance their practice as visual artists, explore new ideas through experimentation, and continue developing their personal artistic style.
● Attend 2 virtual meetings to update on progress, detailing how the prize has supported their work and how their initial intentions have been put into practice
○ The first meeting will be due three months after receiving the materials, and the second will be due three months after that.
● Participate in mentorship sessions with Eddy Kamuanga Ilunga.
● Participate in interviews on Afriradio and be featured on supporters’ social media channels and websites.
● Make themselves available for digital content to be created for social media or larger-scale productions prior, during or after the Award Ceremony Event.

Naomi Beckwith
Naomi Beckwith est directrice adjointe et conservatrice en chef Jennifer & David Stockman du Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation à New York, où elle supervise les collections, expositions, publications, programmes curatoriaux et archives, tout en définissant l’orientation stratégique au sein du réseau international de musées affiliés.
En décembre 2024, elle a également été nommée directrice artistique de la documenta 16, qui se tiendra à Kassel, en Allemagne, du 12 juin au 19 septembre 2027. Elle dirige également l’équipe curatoriale du Palais de Tokyo à Paris pour les expositions de l’automne 2025, connues sous le nom de « Saison américaine », incluant l’exposition collective ECHO DELAY REVERB: American Art, Francophone Thought.
Auparavant, Naomi Beckwith a occupé des postes de curatrice au Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) de Chicago et au Studio Museum à Harlem. Guggenheim Museum and Foundation in New York where she oversees collections, exhibitions, publications, curatorial programmes and archives and provides strategic direction within the international network of affiliate museums. In December 2024, she was also appointed as the Artistic Director of documenta 16, which will take place in Kassel, Germany from 12 June to September 19 2027. She is also currently leading the curatorial team at the Palais de Tokyo, Paris, on their Fall 2025 exhibitions, known as the ‘American Season’, which includes the group exhibition ‘ECHO DELAY REVERB: American Art, Francophone Thought’.
